Community Beautification and Neighborhood Revitalization

The Annual “Paint-Out” Beautification project was inspired and produced by SilkyD Williams’ LadyLike Entertainment Group, starting in 2016, in collaboration with world renown graffiti artist King Cre8, both members of the Bronx, New York based Universal Hip Hop Museum’s (UHHM’s) West Coast Organizing Committee, which conducted its initial meetings at Five Points Youth Foundation.

Dozens of graffiti crews and artists from throughout Los Angeles, Southern California, and from as far away as Brazil, have spent all day during the last Saturday of each August to cover both walls of the 300 foot long reclaimed alley adjacent to the community venue with dazzling and inspirational artwork.

More and more drivers, and passersby youth and adults who spot the distinctive images near the intersection of Western Avenue and Florence Avenue regularly take a second look, and then take a stroll down the walkway, taking selfies and live streaming to their families, friends and a worldwide audience.

With the opening of three Metro train stations along the Crenshaw-LAX Transit Line expected later in 2021, the artwork is intended to draw and influx hundreds of more visitors and tourists whose dollars can help revitalize the neighborhood in a post-pandemic environment for the safe and secure outdoor venue.
